Have you ever seen a gravid (with mature eggs) female bantam sunfish,
Lepomis symmetricus? I have a group I am trying to condition for
spawning. They have grown by leaps and bounds, but the presumed
females don't really show any weight gain in the lower part of the
abdomen. There may be slight enlargement high on the flanks though.
I'm wondering whether they carry their eggs higher in the body, and
so it is harder to tell if they are in spawning condition. The fish
I have are about 2" long now. Any insights?
