The taste of sodium thiosulfate is just plain salty, at least to me. It is
also very low in toxicity -- about the same as sodium chloride. I prefer not to
use it or other additives because I need to keep the dissolved solids as low
as possible for some fishes. It is a lot cheaper than other additives and also
cheaper than using the activated carbon I prefer.
