With guppies it is no big deal to mix the different
color/strains as most of the time you get a pretty
male from the crossings. Bettas have all been crossed
and line bred to make new lines as well(as long as we
are only talking betta splendons). Mixing the colors
of bettas though can give good results or very bad
results as I bought a nice red male and bought 3
different females from the mixed female tank. The male
killed one female and I raise a very few of one
females spawn which turned out OK. The third female
produced 2 spawns for me that were great looking fish.
The spawn that I said was just OK was a blueish female
crossed to this nice red male. From this spawn though
I got the best looking male I raised but the number of
good looking males to bad looking males was way to
high.
