Welcome Ben,

Talk about location, location, location! You are _just_ north of some of
NA's most impressive aquatic diversity. My first suggestion, barring any
location info from people on the list or contacts you make, is to part with
$20 and get a DeLorme Kentucky Gazetteer. You'll be able to see where
there's fishing and canoe accesses, which make for great no-brainer
localities.

If you hop over that Pine Mountain (as I see in my KY gazzer), you'll also
be in the Tennessee River drainage, instead of the Upper Ohio River (big
jump in diversity). The Upper Cumberland runs right there, I see plenty of
places to get in and start poking around.

And sometime soon, I'll be making way toward Moorhead to sample on the
Licking River. Let me know (or anyone else) if you'd like to meet up for
that. Might even happen yet this winter.

Now.. Have I tried any of these places? In the words of Joe Walsh:

"Ain't never been there, but they tell me it's nice." :)

between Hazard, Whitesburg, and Pikevill Kentucky. I Found a few rainbow
darters, Northern Hogsuckers, creek chubs, and a single minnow species that
I am having trouble identifying. In general the streams are bad smelling
(essence du septic tank) and contain rather more muddy sediment than I would
expect (probably from coal mines). besides exhaustive field scouting, does
anyone have any suggestions for locating clean streams within a few hours
(on a kentucky fishing lisence) where high fish diversity could be expected
and where a person would not fear to snorkel?
