It seems to me that a simple floss filter or a few layers of cloth or even a
very fine brine shrimp net would be sufficient, quick and not introduce
chemical changes to the natural water. I think the Brita filter is too slow and
changes the water chemistry and is more filtration than is needed. If the water
is stained from tannins then a Polyfilter might be the right thing. It would
adsorb some of the dissolved materials as well as filter out the suspended
material. All you would need is a funnel and a 2 inch square of Polyfilter. This is
what I do with the rain water I collect off my roof.
