Very few are "unprovoked". Most snakebites are caused by harrassment or =
accidentally stepping on the animal. Many animals are threatened by =
being to close to them or are territitorial, and defend their area.=20

Many of these encounters can be avoided by looking-in-the situation =
before you enter it. Seeing an animal and walking around it, not =
directly-in-it. Watching where you walk to avoid stepping on something =
(snapping turtle in the water ring a bell). Looking-in-bushes and trees =
and noticing that there are bees present, or spotting a goose nest =
before you are on top of it. All of these things help to avoid those =
uncomfortable meetings in the wild, and let us observer their natural =
behavior, not their defense mechanism.

Good point of view, I often wonder how many so called unprovoked attacks =
by wildlife really are unprovoked.
