When we collect from sites that have a particularly low hardness, we use
about a handful of marine salt per 5 gallons of water. We have found that
this really helps to stave off bacterial infections caused by handling and
net abrasions. We have never had any fish that have shown any adverse
effect from this amount of salt. We would prefer to add this type of
treatment to all of our collection water, but it gets to be cost prohibitive
after a while.

Just a pinch or two per cooler. Most fishes have no problem with up to a
teaspoon per gallon.
