Sell it!!!!!!!!!! Take buttons, crackerJack boxes, or whirlygigs
(whatever you can get). The Mettee version is-in-best a coffee table book
(common name in my realm). The "old" version (for PC purposes) is not
even comparable. When I worked in Alabama, the key was confounding at
times(particularly in the darter key), I would end up reverting back to
the Smith-Vanez book (original) (Spelling???). Example- try to key from
macrocephala and maculata (one off the top of my head). The Boschung
book (first author) is as mentioned one of the finest "Fishes of" out
there. The other one does make an excellent window prop for those
slippery windows.

I agree with Dave. The Boschung and Mayden release is of the highest
quality, especially for the price. The drawings make features easy to
distinguish, and you can always follow up with photos online, if you
want the real deal to compare.

Thanks Dave. That is the impression I have been getting from some
reviews. I never really liked my Mette '96 book, kind of a
dissappointment with just alot of flashy pictures, it just came out
before the other one when it was purchased for me.

Hi,

The book you refer to as the "Mayden release" is co-authored by
Herbert
Boschung (first author) and Richard Mayden (second author). Herb
Boschung worked for many years on the Alabama fish fauna, took the
lead
in developing this book, and has earned accolades for its quality.

The Boschung book is one of the finest state fish books ever
published. The other book you mentioned was also published and
printed, and I have no other comment.
