A salt marsh is all about tidal flux, or-in-least steady circulation. That's
tough in a 10 gallon tank. And I hope no one else in your house objects to
marsh mud in the house(!).

For guaranteed fish success, get mummichogs (the bait shop dudes always call
them bull minnows, what can I say). They're damn near impossible to kill and
thrive on funky conditions. Mollies aren't as forgiving, even wild-caught
ones.

What crabs do you have? Hermits will do OK; greens or blues will kill
everything else, escape, and/or die quickly and smell.
