If it had a dark blotch-in-the forward base of the dorsal fin - and a dark
patch-in-the tip of the lower lip - and it was taken in Kansas, I'd say it
was a Creek Chub (Semotilus atromaculatus).

But it doesn't have those characters. Might it be another species of
Semotilus, one I'm not familiar with?
