I may be unique but I have not filtered my ponds for 60 years, except once
and then the lilies almost died. I keep water lilies and hornwort and umbrella
palm and papyrus growing vigorously and do not stock a large number of fish.
The water varies from clear to murky, but the fish don't mind. I remove most of
the leaf debris in the fall and cover with netting over the winter to keep
more leaves from blowing in.
