NANFA-- zebra mussels

Dan, the zebra mussels would probably die off in your tank and then could
possibly cause water problems. For as prolific as thes buggers are, they
are relatively difficult to keep in an aquarium. Besides, I am quite sure
that there are laws regarding keeping them. For us here at the zoo, the
feds granted us special permission as long as we disposed of all water
coming from the tank out on the lawn and not in the sink. If you do want
to keep them and "have permission", then you should get rid of your
filtration and start feeding them mixed slurries of things, such as green
water. I highly doubt that their incidental introduction into your
aquarium will cause a plague.
