Just out:

Snakeheads (Pisces, Channidae) -- A biological synopsis and risk assessment.

USGS, Circular 1251. by Walter R. Courtenay, Jr. and James D. Williams. 143
pp. COLOR.

Dr. Courtenay was handing out copies at an "exotics" conference this week
and a friend brought me one. It is IMPRESSIVE ! It is not just another
government report but a review and analysis of an entire taxon !

This BOOK contains accounts for 29 species! It has a remarkable
illustration (with chillingly prophetic text) from a 1959 publication by
Walt Disney. It has a Risk Assessment Process. It illustrates how these
fish have become established in other parts of the world.

To paraphrase Ed McMahon -
"Everything you could posssibly want to know, everything you would ever care
to read about, anything you could possibly imagine" is in this wonderfully
organized, thoroughly researched, lavishly illustrated, extensively
referenced book.

If you have any interest in these fishes, as their friend or as their foe,
you will definitely want to see this publication.
