NEW FISH FOUND IN MIDWESTERN RIVER: Biologists have found a new species of
fish, the Chickasaw darter, in the Forked Deer River northeast of Memphis,
Tennessee says Science Daily3/4. According biologist Richard Mayden, Ph.D,
current predictions of biodiversity in North America are underestimated,
b there is a heck of a lot of biodiversity that has yet to be discovered in
this country . . . even people in cities in inner cities are living among
fish species that havenbt been described or discovered by scientists.b
The
newly discovered darter, just described in the journal Copeia, b like many
other small stream fish, is endangered in its native habitat and should be
considered for state and federal protection.b
