The whole idea of scanning and compiling AC is an excellent one, but also
one that is more daunting than at first apparent. The ACA (cichlidiots)
scanned their publications on to a disk several years ago, hiring a company
to scan and format the resulting CD. The price was something ridiculous like
$60 or more, and members complained. I'm not sure where they are now with
this project. The AKA (killifishes) has a committee set up now to scan in
the long history of their JAKA, back into the 60s. The big question is how
to set up a searchable index on the disk, and whether pdf is the way to go
for format. Pdf is great in some ways, but even v. 4.0 is cumbersome to read
since you can't straddle pages.

This is a doable project, certainly with volunteer work, but some person(s)
need to map out the project in advance. The other possible sticking point is
copyright; in NANFA we haven't made people sign over copyright for their
writing, so strictly speaking every author--living, dead, or MIA--would have
to agree in writing to be included.

Other than that, it's not so difficult...
