Sorry to get in on this so late, just getting back into town. My southern
momma always used to say "an inch of prevention is worth a pound of cure". I
too have been having this problem for a long time, then a fellow native fish
guy told me about using "Stress Coat" when I collect. I now use it all the
time. I get the big bottle at Wal-Mart for about $4.00 and just shoot a big
squirt into the water in the bucket when I collect. I also bag all the
"keepers" in large fish bags and put in another shot. It replaces the slime
coat on the fish which seems to help quite a bit. Ever since I have been
using it I have never seen the problem again. I do however use it at at
least 2-3x the standard dose. I do not think you can overdose it and its
hard to measure in the field.
