Hi Y'all,

Dustin Smith and I are trying to make plans for a collecting trip back
towards Charleston, SC on the weekend of August 31 through September 2. This
is Labor Day weekend so we will have a long weekend. Charleston is a great
place to bring the family as there is much for them to do if they don't want
to join us while we're out collecting. Nearby beaches, lots of shopping and
many historical
sites to visit promises they won't be bored. Also located in Charleston, is
the South Carolina Aquarium located on Charleston Harbor. This aquarium,
while not as large as the Tennessee Aquarium, has many native fish displays.
( <A HREF="http://206.74.146.33/scaquarium/scaweb/index.htm">South Carolina Aquarium</A> ) We will visit some of the same spots as I
reported in our trip from July 20 as well as some new ones. Most of the
collecting will be in freshwater but, if anyone would like, we can arrange to
hit some brackish areas also. Some of the neat fish we will find on this
trip will be bluefin killies, rainwater killies, and golden topminnows (some
may be melanistic) but many other kinds of fish, amphibians, reptiles, plants
and even insects (I know this is hard to believe) will be found. If we hit
some brackish areas we might find sailfin mollies (Peocilia latipinna),
mummichog (Fundulus heteroclitus), sheepshead minnows (Cyprinodon variegatus)
and lots of other interesting fish. If we're lucky we might even find a
pipefish or puffer. The main collecting will be done on Saturday, but if
anyone can stay for an extra day or two we can hit some other spots around
the state on Sunday and Monday. Contact me on or off list at
ipchay61_at_aol.com if you're interested.
