NANFA-- Exciting Day!

An interesting thing happened yesterday to Bob Muller and myself. We were
surveying the upper part of the Rouge River, in the city of Farmington,
northwest of Detroit. We were with Joe Derek, the city naturalist, to see
what is in the streams in the city. They are building a new nature center
that will house a tank with some native fish from that area. Along with
NANFA, Bob and I will get credit with helping to set this up. Well, anyway,
we collected a Redside dace (state endangered). Even though it has been
found there before, it has not been seen in at least 12 years, from what we
are told. The DNR had spent the day electroshocking in the area and did not
find it, whereas Bob and I had only been there for about 30 minutes to
briefly check the area out. Supposedly this is going to get some press that
we and NANA will get recognition for. More on that later.
