Jan replies:
Braasch and Smith (Copeia 1965: 46-53) found two size groups in Illinois
populations sympatric with blackspotted topminnow. This suggests a natural
lifespan of 2 or 3 years. Size structure was different between allopatric
and sympatric populations, however, and maximum sizes different from those
of other populations, suggesting that life histories varied in different
parts of the range.
