I tend to disagree with you. The area I live in has seen an amazing amount
of Petco and Petsmart stores go in during the last ten years, yet the truly
wonderful locally owned stores are still doing great. I think that the
stores that go under around here are only those stores that won't do more
than offer the basic bread and butter fishes. Those stores that are willing
to take some initiative and bring in some unusual and interesting fishes
have a dedicated staff and clientele.

Maybe the Internets sales will run the mega marts out of business then the
old types stores can come back when people learn how important a friendly
face and knowledgeable owner can be. As long as the "pet marts" keep jumping
up Mom and pop don't have a chance. At pet marts you get drudge worker who
can't wait until quitting time or a kid who doesn't know how much water a 10
gallon tank holds.
