The Lorax lost. Bad PR (and a bad case of body odor). The last
truffala-tree died of chronic smog poisoning immediately after it was
planted, and noone has ever figured out where all the humming-fish went to.
What we need is for someone to find out that conserving diverse native fish
faunas is an aphrodisiac. With market power like that, there'd be a demand
for "wild and scenic rivers" everywhere, and the rehabilitation of rivers
would become a national priority, by Executive Order. ;)
Cheers,
Dave
