<< A couple of people asked how the emerald shiners were doing. Well, out of
the original two dozen, we still have about sixteen that are eating cichlid
flakes and blood worms. Most of these dies during the first few days when
the tank was cycling. One tried to make and escape... out the top of the
tank... and wound up low and dry on the carpet. >>
Michael and anyone else keeping minnows,
I wouldn't keep emerald shiners or any other minnow species uncovered; they
will jump out.Even bottom-dwellering species; suckers too. I have had a
bottom-dwelling minnow, a longnose dace jump out of a tank and I never saw
him leave the bottom before. Besides minnows and suckers, this also applies
to killifishes.
Good luck with your emerald shiners!
Richard
