NANFA-- Water changes...

Sorry if this was off the topic-I've been gone for 4 days and just read all
the email at once...filterless aquariums are my goal!

Is it possible to "over-do" water changes? What's the min/max (amt. of H2O
changed:tank size) y'all do and how often?

Is spirulina harmful to plants if allowed to grow unchecked? I don't see any
problems so far after 4 months...just some sticklebacks, snails and darters
in there. The sticklebacks like hiding in it & nesting. I have a whisper2
(for current) with the foam & filter floss only. (I don't use charcoal or
anything else.) Oh yeah-I keep an airstone in the corner for more current.
My job is traveling & I can only do water changes 4x a week. Currently I
replace 10% a week (which goes to my potted friends!). I'm not sure if I
could go without the whisper &/or the airstone and not able to do water
changes daily or even alternating days.

Any opinions/help?

Thanks,
Amy
