I am serving on the planning committee for the
"Practical Approaches For Conserving Native Inland
Fishes Of The West" symposium scheduled for June of
this year. This is a significant scientific symposium
sponsored by the American Fisheries Society. Most of
the conference will deal with strategies for
conserving and restoring native species.
At a recent planning meeting we were discussing the
final program and I brought up the fact that many
aquarists are interested in native species
conservation. I also raised the issue that
aquariculture can be an effective tool in maintaining
certain fishes. The program chairs were skeptical but
offered that if I could find a qualified speaker on
this topic they would allow program space.
Thus, I am seeking a speaker on the role of
aquariculture and/or fishkeeping hobbyists in the
preservation or restoration of native fishes,
particularly fishes of the inland west.
If anyone is interested in more information please
respond to the list, to my email apistobob_at_yahoo.com
or visit http.www.umt.edu/afs
Thanks,
Bob
