Why would pH of 7.4 be a problem? As for the deaths, a newly set up aquarium
will experience more deaths than one that has been set up for a long period
of time. Sometimes you get fish that are on their way out, nothing you can
do. Give the tank time and don't add anymore fish for a couple of weeks and
when you do add fish do one fish at a time.
