Nick, currently there
Nick, there is currently no "official State Fish"... Someone who was
supposed to attend the convention in Ohio from a State Bass angler club, was
lobbying heavily to promote the Small Mouth Bass. I can inform you as to all
the reasons that fish was selected later, but as you may have guessed, it
was angler driven.

Sometime in 1997, I introduced, via newsletter, an effort I was spearheading
to adopt the Rainbow Darter as a state non game fish. I will give the
reasons for that choice later as well. Anyway, I sent letters to state
Representatives asking them to introduce legislation for this and all the
reasons i felt it was a great idea. I circulated a petition arount to the
local NANFA chapter, but no one seemed interested, so I scrapped the
project.

Anyone wanting all the details as to this, just ask.. :-)
