I don't know, other than perhaps he teaches undergrad ichthology and didn't
like the existing texts. I thought that was rather curious, myself. Which
isn't to say that Gene doesn't know anything about ichthyology (as I define
it), quite the opposite; merely that it's not his principal pursuit.
