Mike -

The following book contains species accounts and color photographs for all
Minnesota fish groups, including minnows and minnow-like fishes:

Phillips, G.L., W.D. Schmid, and J.C. Underhill. 1982. Fishes of the
Minnesota Region. University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, 248 pp.

And, with new and used copies starting around $13, its a real bargain.

This and other field identification guides are listed at the nanfa website.
