I wish I was in driving distance to join in your expeditions in the ice-free
South. It's been weeks since I've seen above freezing temps.
This isn't really fish related, but it is about nature. I'm getting up real
early tomorrow and am heading for Pierre, South Dakota. I guess there are
gyrfalcons all over the area. There is an abundance of prairie chickens,
sharp-tailed grouse, pheasants, ducks, and geese that they're chowing down
on. They've just discovered a few years ago that it's a major wintering
area for the bird. I saw them many years ago along Hudson Bay in Churchill,
Manitoba along with polar bears, arctic fox, and snowy owls. They're very
cool raptors and I hope to see a few of them. Unfortunately it's the gray
not the white form that comes down here, but nonetheless they are very
awesome.
Maybe there will be a few fish in the tailrace of Oahe dam on the Missouri
that I can report on.

It's actually a two-part trip with stops above the fall line (Ocmulgee
drainage) and below (Flint drainage). As of now, the target date is
Saturday, April 3rd. If I get the chance between now and then I'm going to
try to make a scouting run. Interested? If so, get back to me.

took really good care of me while I was up there and I look forward to
returning the favor, Southern style. For those of you in the Northern
Tundra, springtime comes early to GA. Besides, unless you are being
extradited, there aren't many bad reasons to come to GA. :-)
