No, not shoaling.
In the stream they came from, as many as a dozen darters could be observed in
a very small area of bottom. They seemed to just hop around at random and
ocassionally chase one another. They seemed to be interacting and apparently
liked each other's company.
This is exactly the same way seven specimen in a 100 gallon river set up
behave.They disperse out all over the tank and seem to make good use the floor
area. Nobody defends a favorite rock. They hop about and mingle and once in
awhile chase each other a few inches.
I guess I would say they like company.
