Jeff and I dove with thousands of hammerheads in the Galapagos Islands in 1995. We
were on a live aboard boat that actually went out to Darwins Arch (which for me
was the whole point of the trip - to see where Darwin's observations were made).
This rock arch is maybe house-sized, out in nowhere -- no land or boats or islands
in any direction at all! In Papua New Guinea we saw all kinds of reef sharks, and
would hide behind pinnacles and touch their tails when they went by - I have a
good shark picture- just the shark. I went to Fiji and dove with many reef sharks,
and in Australia and Guanaja dove with nurse sharks and wobegongs. Sharks are
cool! In the Northwest I did a night dive in a "pack of dogs" (spiny dogfish which
are true sharks). In the San Juan Islands of WA we had an encounter with a big
shark - don't know what kind it was! Sharks are large and special -- it is always
a thrill to see them. katrina
