I live on a small lake in Michigan and last summer I played around traps.I
used three of the standard round metal traps and one that was coated with
black plastic.I used dry dog and catfood and gamefish chow for bait. I never
caught anything but snails in the coated one.In the other ones I caught
mostly small blue gills and sunfish and an occasional largemouth. Never
caught any minnows of any kind.I put two traps out in the late afternoon in
a small drainage ditch that had no perceptible current and when I went back
in the morning they were packed with fish. There must have been a hundred
minnows in each trap.Mostly creek chubs and several kinds of dace ( my ID
skills are limited) but it was pretty cool as some of them were in breeding
colors.I returned them all as I didn't have space for that many fish, but
can't wait for spring to go try it again.
