Try using a bulb which has a cooler light spectrum. Many bulbs sold on the
market as aquarium bulbs and even cool white bulbs have a light spectrum
slanted to the red and yellows. If you have a fish which shows off nice
blue/green coloration, it is reflecting those colors to your eyes. Using a
lower kelvin bulb (or a warmer bulb) will drown out those colors. Many
bulbs have a light spectrum on the packaging. See if there is a light peak
in the blue part of the spectrum. Another suggestion would be to use a full
spectrum bulb but if you want specific colors to glow, then use a bulb which
is heavy in those colors. Finally, make sure that the light is on the front
part of the tank and not the back part. If the light is shining from back
to front, the fish is in a shadow to your eyes when looking from the front.
By putting the bulb in the front of the tank, it is shining on the front of
the fish towards the back and the shadow is towards the back of the tank.
