A nutria and muskrats are totally different species. The nutria is an animal
imported from Brazil to Louisiana for the fur coat trade. A huricane
subsiquently released the animals and they have become major pest across the
whole Gulf Coast. The muskrat is a native species common in Gulf coast
marshes. It builds miniature lodges made of marsh grass. It is delicious to
eat and was once a popular fur bearing animal. I've never eaten a nutria but
will try anything once! Send recipies!
