RE: NANFA-- now personal feelings-Collecting ethics

I really believe that this is being taken too "personally". I don't believe
that hobbyists are as singled out as everyone thinks. It is pretty much a
no brainer that the habitat destruction is the primary cause for the decline
of most species. I certainly can't argue against your examples and I
wouldn't. We are definitely on the same side here. Money is a driving
force and we are all in agreement that environmental conservation is not the
priority it should be. However I find relatively few real gripes about the
aquarium industry causing the decline of species. I have often seen
references to it, but it really doesn't seem to figure in as the main
reasons. I could very well be way off. What we are talking about here is
the ethics of collecting declining species. As environmentalists, why would
we really want to? Again, if it is for the common good of the species that
is one thing, but collecting the seriously imperilled species with no real
plan that is subjected to the discretion of others is what I would consider
self gratifying.
