Apparently a pike thought it could eat a 22 inch lake trout I caught the
other day. There was the tooth marks on the back third of the trout that
showed the circular pattern of a pike's mouth that was about 5 inches across.
And the trout thought it could eat a six inch minnow-like plug. I recall a
picture from a book many years ago of a pike that had half swallowed another
pike of about its own size but died in the effort. These fish do like to
think big, when it comes to a meal. On the other hand I didn't think the two
of us could eat that big a trout so I released it.
