The problem with tiny gar is the same as with tiny bowfin. they have a
super hyper metabolism. they need constant small living foods. gar
compound this by being picky in food choices at times. They , like bowfin,
are very fragile at this size. their scales do not form completly until
they are larger, leaving them vulnerable. I would say a gar over 2 inches
would be safe, as long as small foods were ready. Good bet would be 3.5
inches and larger. These can be fed a couple feeder guppy sized fish aday
and grow fast and toughen up.
