Is it possible that the fish is the Black Carp? I seem to recall that in
the not too distant past, southern fish farmers were bringing these fish in
to prey on the snails which harbor many digenetic pathogens. The uproar was
that when they inevitably got loose, they would wreak havoc on the already
decimated mollusk populations in US waters. That's all the mussels need
these days!
