Jay:
I defer to your wisdom and experience. My main problem is that I live in
Santa Barbara CA. Unless one is satisfied by collecting Gambusia affinis
Gasterosteus aculeatus (which happen to be present in huge numbers on
a stream close to my home), there's not a whole lot to collect in these parts.
This is the main reason I'm so fond of collection reports here on the NANFA
postings. Once or twice each year I make a major driving trip to some other
part of the country, and value guidance from the NANFA membership.
Your points #1 and #3 really aren't practical when I often don't know where
I'm going to be collecting, and what I'm likely to find when I get there!
Points #2 is well taken, and I plan to prepare something post haste.
Point #4 is as well, but having a NANFA membership card would be a lot
more handy, and I would have it with me at all times...for whatever the
occasion when this particular avocation was the subject of discussion.
I appreciate your thoughful guidance.
