I have had good success in the past in an unheated native tank in my living
room with Florida Flag Fish. I know some people have had problems with
these fish being aggresive, but with a mixed tank of large shiners and
chubs I had no problems. I don't know about getting it off the glass and
rocks. I usually just let it grow on eveything except the front glass.
Make sure you have plenty of light and lots of plants.
