A friend of mine is trying to get her hands on some black bullheads. She
only needs 5 fish and will pay shipping costs. Any help would be
appreciated. Please read below.

Thanks,

Scott,

Here is the info.....

Our project title is: Determination of hybrid status of Brown Bullheads (Ictalurus nebulosus) in Presque Isle Bay, PA

A Very Brief Summary (VBS): Studies on the occurrence of tumors in brown bullheads in Presque Isle Bay have been ongoing for several years. During the course of this work the question of possible hybridization between brown and black bullheads has arisen. Hybridization could theoretically cause unusual phenotypes, including increased incidence of tumors. The aim of this study is to establish whether the brown bullheads of Presque Isle Bay are indeed pure brown bullheads or whether they are brown/black hybrids. A molecular approach is being used to address this question (i.e., PCR of the mitochondrial DNA control region and subsequent gene sequencing). As such, we are looking for frozen liver tissue samples or even entire type specimens of fish known to be true (not hybridized) black bullheads. Tissue samples from 5 individuals would be sufficient for this portion of the study. We could accept whole frozen fish or frozen liver samples (~5- 0g) and would pay shipping costs.

Thanks for offering to circulate this. Not certain what other info to provide. You can include my contact information (see below). We have sequence data on several brown and yellow bullheads now and we think that 5 fish would at least allow us to compare preliminary variation between the 3 species.

Thanks again, Mags
