I`d be very interested to talk to you about the Heterandria. Especially where
you found
them.
I know that Dr. Mettee(Fishes Of Alabama), and Dr. Royal Suttkas have
collected
some in overflow pools of the Tombigbee River near Jackson, AL.
Also, Rod Harper told me of a few isolated spots some years ago in Mobile
County.
I have two populations from the New Orleans area. One population has
melonistic
traits. I`ve been inbreeding, and once had a 90 percent black female.
However,
the trait is not stable.
You are certainly right...every population I have ever sampled looks
different. I think
the prettiest I know of is around Bay St. Louis. Beautiful colors. Lots of
red, even blue
in the dorsal.
There is also a population "morph" that lives in brackish water near Ft.
Walton, FL.

P.S. I`m going to "re-join" NANFA ASAP!
