Just my opinion, but I think it looks more like just a redbreast... the
hybrid bluegill/redbreasts that I've seen were deeper bodied, and the
opercular flap (long, narrow, and obliquely angled), green on the cheek,
lack of a black mark in the 2nd dorsal, etc. all seem more "auritus-ey"...

Any chance you looked at the gill rakers?
