Why not ... native gravel/sand has the two of the best reasons for use
in the aquarium ... it's free and it's plentiful :). As long as no
harmful foreign (toxic) matter accompanies the substrate it should be
excellent .. it works in the natural environment doesn't it ? :)
OBTW, it should look very attractive as well.
