After stumbling across the NANFA web site about 2 months ago I was amazed to
find out how many people keep native fish. I've collected and kept native
herps for years, but fish..... it never crossed my mind. Now I'm hooked, I
joined NANFA, Set up a small tank (10 gal.) and took my grandson on our first
native fish collecting trip.
We are now the proud caretakers of 8 Least killifish Heterandria formosa. We
also collected but released numerous bluefin killifish and a few blackbanded
darters.
All this took place about 2 weeks ago. I've since set up another 10 gal. and
next weekend were off to Georgia to hopefully collect some pygmy sunfish.
Collecting,
keeping and learning about native fish is going to be a rewarding experience
for me and hopefully my grandchildren.
