For normal type of dissolved solids I have found the conversion factor to be
1.7 to convert microsiemens to parts per million. Since both are 1000 times
the milli and per thousand it should be the same. So microsiemens is 1.7
times the ppm or millisiemens is 1.7 times the ppt. It will vary, depending
on the nature of the salts involved. Pure potassium chloride solution is 2.0
times conversion factor. It is often used for calibration of meters but
doesn't really correspond to tap water.
