Hi all,

Here's a report from the first creek test of the hard-body Darter-Gator net
(with the black plastic poly 1/8th" mesh netting). I set it up in the creek
to get some photo's and took some pic's of it. Without really trying to
chase anything into it, there was a small N. lutrensis already in it as I
moved it closer to a school of larger N. lutrensis for an intentional test.

I moved slightly upstream of them and chased them into the net, got 8 of
'em, first and only try. Then I took the net and wings upstream to where had
previously been a great sand and gravel riffle where I've gotten Rainbow
darters in the past. Well, as you know, Murphy's Law kicked in!

The stream bed had changed over the winter and left only a few scattered
courses of gravel and mostly sand. The darters have moved elsewhere to a
habitat more gravelled and to their liking. Having taken the photo's and
stricking out on the darter spot, I returned home to lick my wounds, hahaha!
(A few mosquito bites, that's all.)
