Martin, I've caught most of my madtoms from the river system up under the
roots of willows along the banks; but I've caught the most madtoms from under
rocks as irrigation canals were drying up for the year in Nov./Dec. There
were no plants or driftwood for them to hide in, so.......... In my
aquariums, I have thick clusters of floating plants and the smaller madtoms
cluster in them, but the large, adults seem to stick to the bottom under
rocks/logs.
