In the mountains of WV one of the first sure signs of spring was the creek
chubs taking advantage of high water to come up stream in creeks that
normally didn't support any fish at all to spawn. You almost never got to see
the adults as they moved in the tiny creeks at night. but in few days
millions of tiny fry would be seen crowding their way down the stream before
it dried for the summer. I over turned rocks and found creek chubs 12" long
hiding in a creek with almost no water at all.
