I have done really well with a similar idea. Fortunately, I am married to a
wonderful woman who sews and loves me. I found some net cloth which my wife
sewed into a net bag. I bought a nice new bass net with a 6 foot handle and
Julie replaced the net with the bag she made. It works really well, even
when scooping large quantities of mud.

You do have to be careful with the necks - I had a net break abruptly once
and ripped my hand to shreds.

You may want to reinforce the neck of the net. That's the part
where the hoop is attached to the handle. It's the weakest point of the
net and I have seen many nets break there.
